The treasures discovered and created by Guendalina Salini , accompanied by texts by Giulia Anita Bari and Silvia Litardi and by the words collected by Marco Stefanelli , investigate the concept of shelter as a pre-architectural space, the most embryonic form of human protection. In this sense, the carpet - the central theme of the exhibition - responds to man's primitive need to warm up, to protect himself, to rest, to wrap the dead or to contain goods while on the move. But above all it is a sacred perimeter, a space protected against precariousness and the unknown.
The carpet is the home of the homeless: it has spanned millennia and embraced numerous populations, starting with nomadic tribes and reaching up to the present day. The exhibition opens with a site-specific installation of carpets made with different materials, with colorful and fragrant spices, with multiple textures and designs that evoke different cultures and traditions.
The wall installation of small personal clay shelters is instead the result of a workshop of self-narration and sound experimentation with young people and adults of different nationalities . The laboratory was built in three phases: a first phase of discovery and individual narration through play, a second of analysis of what is for us - or for our community - a "shelter" and a third linked to manipulation and creation. through the clay.
This interior moment was followed by an external phase: small groups organized themselves to gather the voices of the San Lorenzo district, building a sound carpet that - through small speakers inside the clay artifacts - gave voice to every single shelter, giving life at the same time to a choir.
The video part was enriched by two screenings dedicated to the times of housing precariousness. These include a video installation in an old cardboard suitcase dedicated to Sekine Traorè , a young farmhand from Mali killed in the Rosarno tent city.
Finally, the viewer is invited to watch the short film "The city and the sky" which tells the story of a group of men and women of different ages and geographical origins who find themselves in the ruins of an abandoned village, in the Aspromonte in Calabria, and they try to "build a house", repair and re-weave a sense of community.
